Dr. Basalik an invited speaker for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Annual Workshops in Archaeology

Dr. Kenneth Basalik was an invited speaker for the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s Annual Workshops in Archaeology, held on October 28, 2017 at the Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg. The workshop’s papers focused on Ethnicity in the Archaeological Record. Dr. Basalik’s paper was titled: “Looking at the Complexities of Identifying Ethnic and Community Markers in the Archaeological Record: Examples from Pennsylvania.”

Using examples from archaeological projects conducted by CHRS, Inc., Dr. Basalik discussed the difficulty of identifying ethnicity in the archaeological record, stressing the need to consider time, location, and context when evaluating possible ethnic and community markers.
